Pagni, lange Zeit Puccinis intimster Freund, war bald auch ein Haßobjekt Elviras. Zwischen ihm und Puccini kam es im August 1903 zum Bruch. Pagni verließ im Februar des nächsten Jahres Italien, wanderte nach Argentinien aus, von woher er erst 1917 zurückkehrte. Eine Versöhnung mit GP gab es allerdings schon im Jahre 1905. Zu M.A. Coriasco pflegte er Briefkontakt.
Pagni was GP's closest friend for a long time but was also hated soon by Elvira. In August 1903 between him and GP there was a rupture. He left Italy the following february and emigrated to Argentinia, from where he returned not until 1917. But a reconciliation with GP took place already 1905. Pagni also changed mails with M.A. Coriasco.
